Durrës has the longest beach in Albania — a wide stretch of sand running along the Adriatic, backed by a promenade of cafés, seafood restaurants, and beach bars.
Closest to town, the city beach fills up with locals in summer; further along toward Golem and Plazh, the crowds thin out and the resorts get quieter. Either way, the water stays shallow and warm for most of the season, which makes it an easy day trip even outside peak summer.
When to go: June and September are the sweet spot — warm enough to swim, without the August crowds. Evenings on the promenade are worth staying for, once the heat breaks and the seafood grills light up.
Getting there: Durrës is about 40 minutes from Tirana by car, bus, or train — an easy day trip, or a base of its own if you'd rather wake up by the water.
